Many a times, as photographers, we strive to capture an image with the most “feeling”, taken with the most beautiful lighting, with the most natural of expressions. But what is the most important thing that you look out for in an image where you appear in it? Isn’t it beauty?

An image can contain the most natural of expressions, taken using the most gorgeous lighting, but if you don’t look beautiful in it, then perhaps that image is not good enough.

Imagine an image of you in sunset at a beach, hugging and laughing with your hubby to be. The scenery is great, the light from the setting sun is fantastic, both of you are just laughing in your most natural self. However, your gums are showing, your nostrils flaring and your eyes squinting. Now, would you still like this image? Perhaps not as much as you would like to!

This insight, as well as other interesting and exciting aspects of wedding photography was covered yesterday, during a Jerry Ghionis seminar. It was a full day event held at Marina Mandarin, and boy was it an eye opener! Jerry is regarded as one of the world’s top wedding photographers and I was really fortunate to be able to attend it. It was truly a great experience and I will be looking to apply what I have learnt. So you guys out there are in luck! :)

Sometime in August last year, I received an enquiry about my actual day photography service from someone called Adam. A few days later, I received a call, this time from a lady called Christine. I was surprised to find out that Christine was actually Adam’s fiancee. I was more surprised to find out later in the call that she has called me from France!

Adam has been working in France for the past few years (how lucky can a dude be!!) and Christine has moved over there to join him. They were looking for an actual day photographer and chanced upon my website. Since they were overseas, they had to select their photographer based purely on available online materials. Since then, I have been somewhat curious about this couple, and also looking forward to photograph their actual day events.

Finally almost a year later, I get to meet them and had a great time capturing the day’s events over the weekend.

Here’s a sneak peak… more to come later!

And here are more of the images that made up the day…

Adam and Christine will be returning to France in a few days time. Here’s wishing them the very best in their new lives together!

A smile of a bride to be, captured last weekend at a friend’s pre nuptial dinner.

For the technically inclined, this image was taken just before the first dish was being served, and when almost all the lights were off in the hall.  Usually a flash would be needed to light up the scene, but it would also totally destroy the mood. This shot was only made possible using lens with a f-stop of 1.2!

Fancy having your solemnisation in the midst of birdies? Before meeting Eric and Serene, I had no idea that JBP offers such services. Quite a refreshing idea I must say, as there are only so many places in our little red dot of an island that you can hold that special occasion. I thought that the couple were bird lovers, after chit chatting with them, well.. not exactly, but kudos to them to have thought of this idea!

Prior to their ROM, we had a fun time shooting some on location shots. Check it out below!

There was an interesting event after the shoot.. the release of love birds by the couple! See if you can spot one of the birds flying off below :)

After this, It was off to prepare for the actual ROM ceremony by the couple!

Despite a long day, Eric was still full of smiles and energy. Hey, he’s about to make one of the most, if not the most important, commitment in his life!

For Serene, she had a little more help in the preparation!

When you have your ROM is the bird park, expect that the birds will have a hand (or wing) in helping you in the occassion. Here, a cockadoo “handed” Eric Serene’s wedding ring. Now how cool is that?

Over last weekend I had the privilege to shoot Koon Seng and Ke Dan’s ROM at the Amara Hotel. I was actually quite surprised at how good the ambience within the hotel was. Everything was nicely and tastefully lit, the place looked classy and just… nice!

Koon Seng and Ke Dan are a very friendly couple and they made me feel really comfortable when I met up with them. Their solemnisation ceremony was simple yet everything was well put together and I could see the guests really enjoyed themselves.  And did I tell you the food was really great as well?

Now onto some delectable selections for your viewing pleasure :)
